It’s every woman’s dream right, to stay at home and look after the kiddies whilst not only affording to feed and care for them, but also to have a dash of money leftover over for herself? Well, it’s definitely not every woman’s dream, but if it’s something you’ve ever thought about, read on, because you do have options. SO MANY OPTIONS!!
All it takes is a bit of know-how. And if you don’t have it, I’ll lend you a helping hand, because I’ve got some pretty good tried and trusted ideas (*cough cough* – sorry if that sounds a little arrogant, but I’ve helped so many women start successful businesses). I’m champing at the bit to watch you succeed too!
Starting a business from home takes motivation.
It’s a whole lot of hard work, and a lot fewer lattes out with friends than you might imagine. That’s if you want it to be successful. But how do we define success? Well, that’s entirely up to you. Maybe you just want enough money to pocket as spending money on the side, or perhaps your goal is to support your entire family. One thing that’s important to learn right from the outset is that your primary barrier to success is yourself. If you’re committed enough, you can achieve whatever it is that “success” means to you.
So, the next question you’re probably wondering right about now, is, “What on earth am I going to do or sell?” Perhaps you’ve already thought about this and have a few ideas up your sleeve. But if you’ve drawn a blank as to what your business concept could be, have a long hard think about all the skills and qualifications you already hold. What work experience do you already have under your belt? And what in life are you really passionate about? Another thing to consider is have you ever won any awards for outstanding achievement in anything e.g. school or the workplace? The answers to all of these questions will help you land on at least one, if not quite a few more, options. In essence, what are you good at and what do you enjoy? These things combined should hopefully lead to a business opportunity that excites you, as well as one in which you can achieve success.
Viability is critical.
Explore the likelihood of your success from a commercial perspective based on a whole range of factors such as current competition in the market, the budget you’ll need to get started, demand for your product or service etc. You’ll need to do some market research to identify the demand, so ask your friends and family and hey you can even ask the checkout assistant at your local supermarket. The more input you collect from your potential customers as to whether they actually ‘want’ your product or service, the more you’ll be in a realistic position to determine the viability of your business.
So there you have it. Lots to think about! But don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it, because you can. You just need motivation, determination, dedication, and the ability to know when to consult professionals if you’re feeling out of your league. Most of all, remember that the hard work doesn’t come easy, but if you love what you do, you’ll find yourself loving the experience so much that you’ll naturally want to develop and thrive, and this is what success in business is all about. Enjoy! x
