It feels so good because our fabrics are all 100% custom made at the highest standard from organic cotton with absolutely no nasties included. They are not heavily laden with toxic chemicals and are as pure as our earth intended.

Our collections are generally not restocked, however there are some best-selling items including our Heirloom Blankets and Mystery Bags that do get re-stocked.

Easy, peasy, all our pieces are machine washable except our tutu dresses & heirloom products, they’ll go on to live their best life if washed by hand.

So much love goes into every collection. It starts right at conception here in Western Australia and trickles down to production. We keep our standards high so you can enjoy a sustainable luxurious product that feels so amazing against your little one's skin and is completely free of any nasties.

We have open model callouts throughout the year, you can find out more about this by signing up to our emails and following Aster & Oak on Instagram.

Our Production

Our materials are designed and then made to our exact specifications. The thickness from each of our collections is an exclusive 200-240 GSM jersey knit or rib which is perfect for our climate and is what gives our material that buttery soft fabric our customers know and love.

GOTS is a textile production certification; being 100% certified means that the use of toxic bleaches, dyes and other chemicals are not included in our production process, yay! The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain. It also means that we can guarantee our factory and workers above minimum wages, a safer working environment and reduced wastage and offsets.

Nope, you can guarantee it’s all 100% organic goodness. Our fabrics are free from carcinogens, toxins and added chemicals so you can have peace of mind when dressing your little one in our range. Even our dyes are GOTS certified and made from vegetable and plant-based materials.

We sure are, we control exactly how the fabric turns out to ensure it’s certified. Doing this means we track every process and step along with GOTS who also tracks these steps to ensure the highest quality standards. We’re also very proud that our factory is 100% GOTS certified to!! *Happy Dance*

No toxic chemicals are used in the growing of organic cotton, that’s what makes it so great. It does not damage the soil, has less impact on the air, and uses 88% less water and 62% less energy than standard cotton. By eliminating the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, organic cotton helps to keep waterways and drinking water safer and cleaner. Organic cotton farming also uses less energy and healthy organic soils store more carbon, thus helping to combat climate change. Is that not amazing or what?

We, unfortunately, don’t, we would love to and have spent many hours researching how we could carry out every stage of production within Australia but as of 2019, there very little organic cotton growers left in Australia. This is due to our fluctuating climate, lack of water in most suitable growing regions and for various other reasons, growing Organic Cotton in Australia currently appears to be commercially unfeasible.

We would love more than anything to produce our fabric in Australia and to be able to display the Australian made logo but the red tape and cost involved have made it near impossible for us to achieve this.

This is something we absolutely can’t budge on. Being able to provide a no nasties product which is ethical and sustainable is something we pride ourselves on. High ethical and sustainable standards are part of Aster & Oaks ethos and is so, so important to us.

Our GOTS certification also backs up our ethical standards. It’s so important to us to not only be leading the way in sustainability but to also have high ethical standards throughout production. Including, wages, water wastage and offsets. - Read more about our ethical practices here.

Absolutely! None of the above organic standards can be achieved in Australia, we’ve tried tirelessly but unfortunately, we don’t have the facilities so when it comes to babywear being Australian made, it does not automatically mean ethically or organically made.

We currently Skype our factories almost daily, maintaining close relationships and ensuring that the environment and working conditions are up to par. This also includes minimum hours and pay for our wonderful workers. We ensure the factory is also in line with the international labour organization and GOTS certification standards.

Well, that would be easier but no. We take such care when a new collection is released. Since 2014 we have created our designs, patterns and hand illustrations. You can read more on our process here. A lot goes into creating a season, all while ensuring to adhere to ethical and sustainable standards. We also produce in small runs as to not contribute to fast fashion, so no mass produced clothing here!

They are, our range uses nothing but sustainable plant-based products at every step.

Our Packaging

Yes, Aster & Oak products come folded and pressed in an Eco-friendly, compostable garment bag for safety. They also include a barcoded hang tag, branded care label and side tag which are made from organic cotton and you will also notice each piece has been labelled with an individual GOTS certification number. Your order comes shipped to you in a compostable Aster & Oak Satchel.

Our postage satchels are now 100% biodegradable and compostable and made from PLA, PBAT + Cornstarch. This means you can throw them in the compost, FOGO bin or even bury them in the dirt outside and they’ll go on to live another life that won’t cost the earth. Basically, future generations won’t feel the effect of this type of packaging. Traditional plastic packaging takes 100’s of years to break down in landfill and contributes to the growing problem caused by over consumption and plastic use.

If our packaging is placed in a microbe-rich environment to help it break down, it can take a short time to live out its life cycle. Whereas biodegradable plastic bags can take anywhere from a few months, to a few years to fully break down. This is incredibly exciting because compared to traditional plastic bags which take hundreds of years to break down the environmental footprint they leave is far less than its traditional counterpart and even some of the sustainable options currently available.

Our packaging also carries the European & Australian certifications for being home compostable. We let some of our family and friends test the bags for themselves in their home composts and let me tell you, worm food at its finest!
